How it’s made
Bringing together their artist and cultural knowledge, Ronni-Leigh and Stonehorse Goeman were able to create one of a kind black ash basket with sculpture.
Ronni-Leigh uses the age old tradition of black ash and sweet grass basket making she learned from Mae Bigtree.
Although there are many traditional aspects to her baskets she also weaves her individuality into each basket, by embellishing with moose hair and plaited porcupine quills. Stonehorse completes the basket by using white tail deer, moose antler or fossilized ivory to sculpt detailed fennels or basket stands that are inspired by stories of the Haudenasaunee!
